It is 1986 at Greenwood High School. The nuclear panic resulting from the Cold War has started to subside. They have stopped running the drills, though the fallout shelter in the basement is still stocked with some bare necessities and left otherwise empty in case the worst should happen.

You just focus on living your own life navigating the inescapable social structures that dictate your daily high school interactions.

Late in the afternoon, after most of the other students and faculty have gone home, the air-raid siren pierces the air. The students are ushered into the fallout shelter and told to wait - but no one comes to get you.

Description

In But Not Tonight you play a high school student (or a guidance counselor) who is forced to examine their life, relationships, and past actions in the face of the possibility that here is no future. This is a game about friendship, love, hopes, dreams, facing fears, discovering who you are, and overcoming despair with the help of others. Dark themes are explored, but the focus is on empowering characters to live the best lives they can, regardless of whether those lives will last only for a few more hours or for many decades to come.

This game has no pre-cast characters. Players will build characters together in beforeplay session lasting about one hour. This game has low fidelity of time: play is divided into acts and includes some techniques like flashbacks.

Costume: No costuming needed. Dress like it's the 80’s if you want to.

Content warnings: This game deals with claustrophobia, the possibility of loss, peer pressure, bullying, and might also include player introduced elements appropriate for the genre such as divorce, abandonment, teen pregnancy, and others.

The game will include auditory cues, and optionally include sitting or lying on the floor.
